Design Work Ready To Kick Off For New Submarine

The Swedish government has approved plans to begin design work on a new class of submarines, reports Kockums, the Swedish shipbuilder.
The A26 class will be designed primarily for littoral operations, with oceangoing capabilities.
The boat will be a diesel-electric sub with a Stirling air-independent propulsion system. Together with balanced underwater signature characteristics, the boat will be very stealthy, company officials said.
