Defense Scientists Develop Laser-Based Weapons

The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in India has been working on laser-based anti-ballistic missile systems, Defense News reports.
Such directed-energy weapons (DEW) are designed to destroy incoming ballistic missiles by bombarding them with subatomic particles or electromagnetic waves.
One scientist said such laser-based weapons have already been tested. One has a range of about seven km (4.3 miles).
