The Japanese Defense Ministry has requested an additional US$6.5 million for the fiscal 2018 budget to support the construction of two land-based Aegis missile defense systems, reports Tokyo's Kyodo news agency.
The Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to endorse the deployment of two Aegis Ashore systems on Dec. 19, a government source told Japan Times.
