Defense Ministry Anticipates New Militia; 20,000 May Serve

Afghanistan's Defense Ministry says it is almost completed preparations for a new militia unit, reports Tolo News (Afghanistan).

The militia will be comprised of reserve soldiers and officers. They will receive a salaries in the same fashion as regular units, said a Defense Ministry spokesman on Monday.

Former army personnel will be allowed to join the militia. The force will secure vulnerable areas cleared of insurgents that the military cannot safeguard, the spokesman...
