Defense Ministers Take Aim At Alliance Budget Shortfall

NATO defense ministers have reached an agreement on meeting a budget shortfall of nearly US$900 million, reports the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, last week the officials decided to put new funds into NATO's accounts, but did not specify how much.
The deficit has been blamed on higher-than-expected spending on infrastructure for troops in Afghanistan.
Some savings are expected to be realized by postponing or canceling some military programs.
