China needs to enhance its border and coastal defenses, says Defense Minister Liang Guanglie, as reported by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.
Border and coastal security units must emphasize sovereignty, territorial security and maritime interests, the minister said.
Such units must also contribute to improved relations with neighboring countries and development in frontier areas, he said at a conference on border and coastal defense.
