Decision On Peacekeepers Put Off For 2 Weeks

The U.N. Security Council has decided to extend the mandate of the peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) for another two weeks while it decides on its next move, reports the U.N. News Service.

The extension will give the U.N. more time to consider options for troop reductions and a revised mandate for the mission.

The government of Chad has asked the peacekeepers to leave, saying it has served its purpose.
