Poland has formalized an accord with the United States that sets up a permanent U.S. missile defense base on Polish territory, reports Deutsche Welle.
Signed in Krakow on Saturday, the agreement is part of a revamped version of a European missile defense shield.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who oversaw the signing, emphasized that the system is purely defensive and does not threaten Russia.
