Both Japan and the United States agree it is no longer feasible to relocate Okinawa's Futenma military base by the 2014 deadline, reports the Kyodo News Agency.
Top defense officials on Tuesday dropped the deadline and said the relocation will be completed "at the earliest possible date after 2014."
Negotiations over the relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station from Ginowan to a less populated area on the island have been stalled by strong local opposition....
