The secretary-general of the U.N. reports that the joint U.N.-African Union peacekeeping mission in the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan (UNAMID) still lacks critical equipment, according to the U.N. News Service.
The mission currently has 17,157 personnel, or about 87 percent of its authorized strength of 19,555 troops, and 1,812 police officers of an authorized strength of 2,660, says a new U.N. report.
