Cutter Commander Relieved Of Command For Grounding Incident

The Coast Guard has relieved the commander of the cutter Diligence after a grounding incident last month, reports the Virginian-Pilot (Hampton Roads, Va.).

Cmdr. Harry Schmidt was fired by Vice Adm. Robert Parker, head of the Atlantic Area, for a loss of confidence in his ability to command, according to a service release.
