Costly Sub Damage Could Add Months To Refitting

A preliminary estimate made by the U.S. Navy pegs the cost of last month's fire aboard the nuclear-powered attack submarine Miami at upwards of $500 million, reports AOL Defense.

The estimate was requested by Congress and is not considered definitive, Navy officials said.

Congressional appropriators could add funding into the overseas contingency portion of the defense spending bill so the boat could be redeployed as soon as possible.
