India has ordered dozens of utility helicopters from Russia, reports the Times of India.
The US$1.2 billion contract covers 80 Mi-17V5 medium-lift utility helicopters.
The contract was signed during last week's visit to India by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
The aircraft, to be armed for combat operations, are intended to replace 50 Mi-8 helicopters that have outlived their 35-year service life.
Deliveries are scheduled between 2010 and 2014.
