The Danish military hopes to save US$40 million by reducing the number of its conscripted personnel, reports the Copenhagen Post.
As part of a Defense Ministry plan to cut spending by US$403 million, the army will draft 1,100 fewer personnel each year.
The savings expected to result should allow the military to keep open barracks in outlying areas such as Bornholm and Hjorring, potential actions that have drawn local criticism, said officials.
