South Korea and the U.S. plan to begin operations within weeks with a combined division intended to boost combat readiness against potential North Korean threats, reports the Yonhap news agency (Seoul).
The countries agreed last year to establish the combined division to enhance their joint defense posture and tactical-level combat capabilities.
The new unit will consist of a South Korean army brigade and the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division now in Uijeongbu, north of Seoul.
