Russia's new Black Sea Fleet commander has been ordered to set up a combat-ready unit of ground troops in Crimea, reports Russia's Sputnik news agency, citing a source from the General Staff..
Lt. Gen. Yuri Petrov was appointed deputy Black Sea Fleet commander on Thursday.
The ground forces will be "capable of repelling any threats and challenges," said the source.
Additional troops were deployed in Crimea after Russia annexed the region in March.
