Columbia-Class Sub Program Takes Big Step

The outgoing head of acquisition for the Pentagon has given his approval for advanced development for the Navy's planned fleet of 12 nuclear-powered ballistic-missile submarines (SSBNs), reports Bloomberg News.

The Navy is in contract talks with General Dynamics, which is leading the project to replace the Ohio-class SSBNs. Huntington Ingalls Industries is the top subcontractor.
