Chinese coast guard vessels are making persistent patrols around reefs claimed by Malaysia in the South China Sea, according to ship-tracking data obtained by the Guardian (U.K.).
During the first two months of 2017, three Chinese vessels patrolled the Luconia Shoals, an area of islets and reefs about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) from mainland China and 90 miles (145 km) north of Malaysian Borneo, the data showed.
