A U.S. Coast Guard cutter has sunk a Japanese ghost ship off the Alaskan coast that had been drifting since the last year's tsunami, reports CBS News.
In March 2011, the 164-foot Ryou-Un Maru was docked in Hokkaido, Japan, destined for scrapping, when it was dislodged by a tsunami triggered by a massive earthquake.
The Coast Guard decided to sink the empty ship this week because of the hazard it posed to shipping lanes, said officials.
