Coast Guard Sees More Cubans Trying To Reach Fla.

The U.S. Coast Guard has had to increase its patrols in the Florida Strait because of a significant increase in the number of Cuban migrants headed to the U.S., reports the Sun Sentinel (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.).

The numbers have jumped 117 percent since December 2013.

Attempts increased last month after President Obama announced that he would restore diplomatic relations with Cuba.
