The U.S. is withholding US$160 million in planned aid for Afghanistan due to corruption and financial mismanagement in Kabul, reports the U.S. State Dept. Approximately US$100 million of the withheld funds were intended to support a large infrastructure project. These funds will now be returned to the Treasury, said a State Dept. release on Sept. 19.
