The deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency plans to retire, the New York Times reports.
Stephen Kappes, a veteran clandestine officer and former Marine, came out of retirement in 2006 to take his position.
Kappes has reportedly served undercover in Moscow, Islamabad and at a secret station in Germany collecting information about Iran during the 1980s.
