A top Chinese security official has been elected as the head of Interpol, the international police organization, reports the Guardian (U.K.).
Vice Minister for Public Security Meng Hongwei will serve as president for four years, announced Interpol on Wednesday.
He is the first Chinese official to hold the position, reported Xinhua. Meng was previously the deputy director of China's armed police.
