Chhattisgarh Seeks Assistance Against Maoists

The Chhattisgarh state government wants India's federal authority to deploy 23 battalions of paramilitaries to combat Maoist militants, reports the Press Trust of India.
The state said almost 23,000 troops are needed to counter the growing strength of the insurgents. The Naxalites have an estimated strength of 12,000 armed personnel.
The central Indian state also indicated it requires assistance to raise nearly 16 battalions of security personnel.
