About 200 militants have crossed from Afghanistan into northwest Pakistan to attack a border checkpost, say police cited by Reuters.
As many as seven police officers were killed in the Wednesday attack, according to differing accounts from security officials and local media.

The militants were said to be wearing military uniforms, but it is not clear if they were Afghans or Pakistanis.
