Chavez Announces Purchase Of More Chinese Aircraft

Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has ordered a second batch of Chinese K-8 aircraft, reports Mercopress (Uruguay).

The government previously ordered 18 of the light attack and training aircraft, six of which have been delivered.

The president has indicated he wants a total of 40 K-8s to train pilots and conduct counter-drug operations.

The latest deal is estimated to be worth US$82 million. The number of planes involved was not disclosed.
