Former President Jimmy Carter left North Korea Friday with a U.S. citizen who had been imprisoned for illegally entering the country, the New York Times reports.
Aijalon Mahli Gomes was arrested in January for crossing into North Korea from China. He was sentenced to eight years of hard labor in April.
Carter arrived Wednesday at the invitation of the North Korean government.
Gomes was the fourth American in a year arrested for illegally entering North Korea.
