One of the worst-kept secrets involving the Chinese military has been officially made public.
The head of the Chinese general staff has confirmed that China is preparing to launch its first aircraft carrier, reports the Guardian (U.K.).
For the first time, officials acknowledged the existence of the carrier, the Varyag, a former Soviet navy ship purchased from Ukraine in 1998. It could be launched in the next few weeks.
