Caracas Called Out As Leading Latin Arms Race

Regional experts have raised alarms over what they see as an arms race in South and Central America, reports Mercopress (Uruguay).

Latin American countries have nearly doubled their defense spending over the last five years from US$24 billion in 2003 to US$47 billion in 2008, according to Colombian analysts at a forum in Prague in the Czech Republic.
