A Canadian officer says special operations troops exchanged fire with Islamic State militants in Iraq last week, reports CBC News.
The Canadians were targeted by mortars and responded with sniper fire, "neutralizing the mortar and the machine-gun position," Brig. Gen. Michael Rouleau, commander of special operations forces command, told reporters in Ottawa on Monday.
