California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger dispatched the first group of 224 Guardsmen this week to the state's southern border with Mexico to assist Border Patrol agents control narcotics traffic and illegal immigrants, Agence France-Presse reports.
California became the first state to have National Guardsmen trained and operational for such a mission, said Schwarzenegger.
