The U.S. Army has been considering the possibility of cutting the posts of up to 29,000 enlisted soldiers and officers, reports United Press International.
The question of terminating positions because of budget pressures was raised on Capitol Hill.
"I have seen numbers that will approach the enlisted category perhaps as high as the mid-20s -- 23, 24,000," Thomas Lamont, the Army secretary for manpower and reserve affairs, told a Senate committee on Wednesday.
