NATO defense ministers have endorsed the broad counterinsurgency effort in Afghanistan sought by U.S. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the commander of coalition forces in that country, reports the Voice of America News.
The ministers have a "general shared view" that the alliance must make Afghanistan strong enough to defend itself against militant forces, said Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen at a meeting on Friday in Bratislava, Slovakia.
