The British Royal Marines have transferred control of Helmand province's Sangin district in Afghanistan to the U.S. Marine Corps, Agence France-Presse reports.
The handover of the district was announced in July. British forces arrived in the area in 2006, and suffered about a third of their war dead in the district.
British troops will be redeployed into central Helmand, Defense Minister Liam Fox said.
