The Boko Haram Islamist group is in the midst of an offensive in northwest Nigeria, reports the BBC.
On Sunday, it launched simultaneous predawn attacks on Maiduguri and the town of Monguno, both in Borno state near the border with Chad and Cameroon.
The military said ground troops, local vigilantes and airstrikes repelled the attack on Maiduguri.
However, the militants apparently took control of Monguno and its military barracks, a Nigerian military officer told CNN. ...
