The Boko Haram militant group has a new leader, says Chad’s President Idriss Deby, as reported by the New York Times.
Abubakar Shekau, the head of the Nigeria-based group, was wounded and replaced by a previously unknown militant named Mahamat Daoud, Deby said in a state radio broadcast on Wednesday.
He did not say how he obtained the information.
Shekau has not been seen in months. He has been reported to have been killed on numerous occasions.
