'Boatspaces' Cut From Marine Totals

The Marine Corps has decided to cut empty billets from the service as part of efforts to reduce the size of its authorized strength, reports the Marine Corps Times.
Some 300 empty slots, known as boatspaces, are being cut as part of a seven-point plan to reduce the size of the Corps to 202,100 personnel by Sept. 30, 2010.
Boatspaces refer to the number of occupational specialty slots available for re-enlistment.
