Russia—Bastion Coastal Defense Systems Deployed In Disputed Kuril Islands

Russia has deployed coastal defense systems on disputed islands in the north Pacific, reports the Tass news agency (Moscow). On Thursday, the Russian Pacific Fleet announced that Bastion-P coastal defense systems had been put on combat alert on Matua in the Kuril Islands. This is the first time that the Pacific Fleet has deployed the system. A Kremlin spokesman defended the move, citing Russia's right to station military equipment in its own territory.
