Russia has deployed coastal defense systems on disputed islands in the north Pacific, reports the Tass news agency (Moscow).
On Thursday, the Russian Pacific Fleet announced that Bastion-P coastal defense systems had been put on combat alert on Matua in the Kuril Islands.
This is the first time that the Pacific Fleet has deployed the system.
A Kremlin spokesman defended the move, citing Russia's right to station military equipment in its own territory.
