The Nigerien government lost millions of dollars to corruption in arms deals over the last three years, according to a government audit cited by Reuters.
The audit examined 177 contracts between 2017 and 2019.
Over the last three years, about US$120 million, or 40 percent, of the US$312 million spent on military projects was lost, according to auditors.
The losses were primarily attributed to inflated costs and materiel that was not delivered.
