Astute Nuclear Sub Joins Navy

The British Royal Navy has commissioned the first of its new nuclear-powered attack submarines, reports the U.K. Ministry of Defense.

The sub was accepted and commissioned Friday at the Clyde Naval Base in Scotland.

HMS Astute is the stealthiest sub in the British fleet with advanced nuclear reactors that will never need to be refueled.

The boat can carry a mix of up to 38 Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles and has an advanced sonar with a range of 3,000 nm...
