The U.S. Navy's surface forces chief has ordered inspections of dozens of vessels to determine their service lifespan, reports the Navy Times.
The Harper's Ferry- and Whidbey Island-class amphibious ships will undergo inspections first, followed by Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, said Vice Adm. D.C. Curtis.
Under the pilot program, inspectors will assess each ship's readiness and expected lifespan.
