Arrests Top 1,000, As Anti-Government Rallies Continue

Activists in Egypt say they will continue their anti-government rallying despite the fact that at least 1,000 people have been detained since Tuesday, reports Agence France-Presse.

The government intensified its efforts to crush the new wave of protests on Wednesday and banned public gatherings.

Late Wednesday, protesters in Suez set a government building on fire, according to security officials and witnesses, reported Reuters.
