Street gangs have been blamed for attacking two passenger buses in El Salvador's capital Sunday night, killing at least 16 people, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The attackers sprayed one bus in San Salvador with bullets and doused another with gasoline before lighting it on fire, police said on Monday.
Police said gangs and drug cartels have been demanding protection money from bus companies.
Six suspects have been arrested, the national police chief said.
