The U.S. Army is shipping new rifles with greatly increased range to snipers in Afghanistan, USA Today reports.
The XM2010 sniper rifle can hit a target 3,937 feet away, a quarter-mile farther than the current M24 Army sniper rifle, according to the Army.
Insurgents have been firing from greater heights and have gotten beyond the reach of the M24, said officials.
