For the first time in 16 years, a U.S. general will serve as the chief of staff of a United Nations peacekeeping mission, reports the Fayetteville Observer (N.C.).
Brig. Gen. Hugh Van Roosen has been appointed chief of staff of the U.N. Mission in Liberia, the mission's third-highest military position.
The general's appointment starts in July and is expected to last one to two years, reported the Southern Pines (N.C.).
