The Australian army has decided to purchase 35 BAE Systems M777A2 towed howitzers for four artillery batteries, Defense News reports.
The purchase of the 155-mm lightweight artillery is part of a $493 million artillery replacement project known as Land 17.
An associated digital terminal control system for the howitzer will be considered for purchase in the second half of next year, army officials said.
