The U.S. Army has ordered modifications to its Stinger short-range anti-aircraft missiles to enable them to defeat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), reports Raytheon, which builds the missiles.
Under the program, the missiles are being fitted with proximity fuzes that will permit them to shoot down a wider range of threats.
The Army has completed qualification testing of the new fuze and will begin delivering the enhanced Stingers to troops later this year.
