A military team in Chengdu, in China's central Sichuan province, has recruited domestic homing pigeons for the first time, reports the China News Service.
The new assets must be able to fly very fast and find locations precisely, said the team leader.
The pigeons must also pass stamina, courage and obedience tests before joining the service.
Such units are maintained because the birds resist human interference and can accurately deliver messages.
