Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has "retired" the army's chief of staff, reports Agence France-Presse.
Gen. Babaker Zebari "has been retired," said a spokesman for the prime minister on Monday. He had been chief of staff for almost a decade.
Last year, Abadi discharged 26 Iraqi army officers and forcibly retired 10 others, reported the World Bulletin (Turkey). It was unclear if this move was related to that effort.
