Communist rebels in the Philippines have killed three soldiers in an ambush, says the military, as reported by the Indo-Asian News Service.
Rebels with the New People's Army (NPA) detonated explosives and then fired at a military convoy Monday night in Kalinga province, said an army official.
The 30-man unit had been investigating reports of NPA rebels in the area and was returning to base when it was ambushed, according to the army spokesman.
